If I had to choose one thing that I loved most about what I do, it is the emphasis put on finding a purpose. From the moment I said yes to becoming a Team Beachbody Coach, I was encouraged to dig deep and find my “why.”
- Why was fitness and health important to me?
- Why did I want to help people?
- Why did I want to grow my business?
I wrote down a list of really BIG dreams that I wanted to accomplish and began breaking down those goals so I could figure out how I was going to achieve them. I am in awe of the power we are given when we put our dreams on paper and begin to share them with others.
Find Some Inspiration
I recently listened to a coach on our team tell a very moving storyof her why. She had a baby at a young age and started life quickly as a wife, mother, student, and working woman. Even for someone strong and motivated, it was difficult to make a secure life without the proper goals and direction. She recently decided to speak her why, put it on paper and share it with others. As Jessica shared her story and her passion, one could not help but know that this was a woman with a purpose and she was not going to back down. She explained that though she had a why, she was reluctant to share it.
As she let go of her fears and started sharing her why and her dreams, it became more real.
Every time she speaks it, it is as if it is that much closer to happening. I have no doubt that she will go far beyond her goals because her “why” is that strong!
Mindset is Everything
I am reading a book right now called Flip The Switch by P.JMcClure. Here is a statement that caught my attention and inspired me to write this blog.
“How is it that a few of the people you know always seem to ‘fall into’ great situations while others consistently struggle just to get by? – The answer is mindset.”
Really let that sink in for a moment. How many times in your life have you been handed a really bad hand and it just seemed to have a domino effect. If this is not you, you more than likely know a person like this. Then there are those who have good fortune seeking them out all of the time. They are happy and excited about life and well, why wouldn’t they be? They have had it so good- right? Wrong! The truth is we are all faced with struggles. If you want to prevent a snowball effect after some tragic event, you have to get your head in order! Stop letting negativity and doubt rule your life. Have a purpose and never let any thing prevent you from being your best.
Having the right mindset will help you discover and fulfill your why. What is your mental attitude when you are confronted with a problem? Let’s take your health for instance. Do you have negative thoughts and comments about exercise, health food, gyms or weight loss? Do you come up with excuses for why you can’t exercise or eat a certain way? What ifyou could change your mindset? Try it right now. You may not even really mean it when you first say it, but practice being positive and it will begin to sink in. “I can get up 45 minutes early to workout!”
What Do You Want & Why Do You Want It?
Now that you are in the right frame of mind, it’s time to voice what it is you really want in life, in your job, in your faith or for your family. This might be where you start making your list of really big goals and how you are going to achieve them. As you work toward your goals, you will undoubtedly lose your motivation and possibly even quit. This is why it is so important to have a “WHY.” Why do you want to lose weight? Why do you want a promotion? Whatever you decide your why is, it has to be so big that as soon as your eyes pop open in the morning, you think of your why and it makes you jump out of bed an hour early just so you can make one more step to reach your goal.
It’s really difficult to create goals and lay a foundation for your big fat why if you have the wrong mindset. Get rid of that voice in your head that is telling you that you are aiming too high and that you can never achieve that level of greatness. It’s a lie!!! Here is yet one more quote by P.J. McClure that I believe ties everything I am trying to say together. “We are all made with the ingredients of significance. We all have the stuff to matter. If we only do what we are capable of, we would astound the world.”
