Show of hands, who made a New Year’s Resolution for this 2015?
Did you know that Forbes magazine reports only 8% of people who make NY Resolutions actually achieve them and 90% fail within the first 45 days!
3 of the top reasons cited are
- People make unrealistic resolutions.
- People don’t equip themselves with the mental ammunition to fight off doubt and continue with their goals.
- Using guilt or fear as motivation, or resolving to stop doing something.
Do any of these sound familiar? They do to me! But over the past few years I have been better at making and keeping some of the resolutions I set out to accomplish. So this year I decided to make a list of 10 things I want to accomplish or improve upon.
They are realistic and attainable- BUT- they highlight my weaknesses and areas that need improvement. I’ve always found that the power of the pen and putting my goals on paper help me to accomplish them. I don’t want to fail. If I tell my goals to another person, they now will know if I fail, so I will tell you my goals and resolutions- hold me to them.
In no specific order…
- Better time management with job/family- I cannot keep using the excuse ‘mom of 4’ when it comes to remembering and forgetting commitments! This year I will have a planner and I will sync it with my Note app on my phone and my Outlook calendar. I will take a few minutes every morning and night to review my schedule for that day! This way I will give quality time to my job without sacrificing time with my family.
- Spend more one-on-one time with my kids. I have 4 kids; this was my choice, not theirs. They are all individual people and I must treat them as such. Group activities are fun, but 1-on-1 is quality. One way that I know I can do this by scheduling in lunch time with the big kids at school.
- Commit to 20-30 minutes a day to personal development. I think I am ‘ok’ at this. I tend to wake up before the kids to have quiet time in the morning, but I need to be consistent. PD fuels my soul. I need it for motivation in my personal life as well as my business life. Book suggestions are always welcomed!
- Maintain my resolution from last year to have more date nights with my husband. We actually have been consistent with this one. Some might think it’s silly or frivolous, but if you don’t date your spouse you will lose the flame. I love my husband and I need to feel connected to him. Having a scheduled date night helps both of us to put each other as a priority.
- Be a better parent. This will be helped by having more 1 on 1 time with my kids. I will get to know them better, especially the 2 older ones. Babies are easy to understand. But as they get older, you need to talk more and listen better. I can also work on my patience with my kids- (I think most parents will agree)- it is easy to get overwhelmed and snap.
- Be a better leader- help my team. See, all of these resolutions are building on one another! I am a Diamond Coach and that means I have a lot of coaches under me. I need to be present and able to help them achieve their goals, just like my coach helped me. I am nothing without my team.
- Better daily skin care. I will wear SPF every day. I will wash my face every night. I have seen some beautiful women in their 60’s who credit very simple skin care regiments for their flawless skin. I know I am late to the game, but I can catch up! What do you use??
- Be more charitable- and find charities that I believe in 100%. My goal is to be able to give 20% of my income to charity. It’s a lofty goal- but I know we have what we need and that others can benefit from what we’ve been blessed with.
- Floss more. Dam you dental floss. . .
- Get at least 30 NEW people excited about health and fitness in 2015. That’s 2.5 people a month. I’m sure you think that’s low, but the key word is excited. I will talk and work with a lot of people this year. Sadly, not will have the drive or ability to follow through with their health/fitness goals- and that is ok. Our paths will cross again. But there are 30 of you out there that I cannot wait to meet and change your life!
I pray for many blessings to you and yours this New Year. I hope my list has inspired you to write down a few resolutions of your own. Print it and hang it where you will see it and be reminded of how awesome you can be.
