Never Give Up has been the theme this year for Team Beachbody. We recently attended our annual #summit2014 meeting in Las Vegas. Over 9,000 coaches came together and received incredible motivation, encouragement and training. We had the opportunity to listen to top speakers like Darren Hardy and Chris Hogan (part of Dave Ramsey’s Financial team). My favorite speaker by far was Diana Nyad. I highly recommend you look up her full story but I will briefly recap for you.
Diana was the first to swim from Cuba to the US. She completed this at the age of 65! She had attempted earlier in life but FAILED. She was raped as a young girl by someone she trusted deeply- her swim coach. As she shared her story of going deep to the bottom of a pool and screaming to the top of her lungs “I WILL NOT LET THIS RUIN MY LIFE” I got shivers down my spine. Names and faces flashed through my mind of people in my life who had had traumatic experiences and who had let it define them – people who had given up before they had really had a chance to take off and fly.
I have been to Summit 3 years now.
This was the first year I felt the intensity and power to motivate and inspire in such large capacity. Perhaps because I have always been driven, I had a hard time realizing the full impact. It was by having a large portion of my team there and seeing relaxed and slow movement transition into a fire and passion that could not be contained.
Linda Maglione is one of those coaches. She has been on our team for a little over a year. She is no stranger to the concept of never giving up though. She and her husband Ed are both deaf and have been since birth. They have no doubt had a lot of obstacles to overcome and you can bet that they have wanted to throw in the towel and quit at times. But they thrive. They are successful and they have beautiful and respectable children. But even with such a story of being an overcomer, it is easy to get settled in our ways and give up on pushing for all that we were created to be. Linda and Ed realized that this year at Summit. Diana Nyad’s story hit home and Linda went home with a renewed fire in her belly because there is more and there is nothing in her way but herself. Age, status, hearing, schedule – they are all excuses holding her back from her true potential. If Diana Nyad can swim across the ocean from Cuba to America with deadly jellyfish wrapped around her body… well I just can’t imagine anything worse that could hold us back from our dream.
So what have you given up on in your life and WHY do you feel it is too late? Why do you allow excuses to hold you back? You may have heard the saying “excuses are well-planned lies”. When you give up and become complacent in life- no matter what age- you fail to reach all of the potential God has put inside of you. IT is already there. He has already filled you with your gifts and the tools to succeed. It is up to you to put them into practice. You were fearfully and wonderfully made.
