It’s Coming! Chalene Johnson’s PiYo!

I was fortunate enough to receive a sample workout set aside for a few of the Elite coaches in the company.  So of course I had to get my husband to try it out.  I will do it too, but I love getting his feedback because he tends to take the perspective of how he thinks others will like it.  I did about 10 minutes of the workout with him before I was summons away with a poopie and hungry baby – I know EXCUSES!  But I wanted to get this info out to you so you are pumped and ready to go.

What is PiYo?

PIYO

You can carve out an intensely defined physique without jumps, weights, or joint strain.  PiYo uses low impact, hight- intensity movements inspired by Pilates and yoga.  You will work every single muscle to stabilize, stretch and strengthen your entire body.  Don’t worry, Chalene Johnson cranked up the speed and fun to ensure you burn plenty of calories.

So what did Matt (my husband) think?  Over all he liked it.  He felt that some men may find it too choreographed but choreographed moves have kind of grown on him- especially since he has really grown to appreciate the health benefits to yoga.  He was sweating with the 33 minute workout was over and was sore the next day.

As for me – the 10 minutes I did get in were awesome.  I loved the flow of the moves (that would be the choreography my husband referred to).  It gives the whole routine a little more excitement than just counting down seconds while holding a stretch.  As with all of Chalene’s workouts, the music was great.

Who is PiYo for?

This will be the first program that I will recommend for people who feel that they cannot do high impact workouts.  I can see a few steps in the workout taking a few times to master but certainly are doable with time and practice.  That is the case with most workouts though.  I think this is also an awesome program to work in for someone who focuses a lot on strength training.  This is going to give you the balance and flexibility to help you get the most out of your strength training.  And, coming strictly from the perspective of a mom who has been pregnant 4 times, I see this as an excellent option for pregnancy. OF COURSE I want you to check with your doctor first 😉
