I recently went shopping online for a pair of jeans and was a little surprised to see pant size 00 as an option. My husband and I have discussed the bizarre sizing of women’s clothing on several occasions and it truly makes no sense.
Over the years I have also noticed how my pant size seems to keep dropping. This is in part due to an actual loss in weight, but when I slid on my first pair of Size 0 jeans, I had to scratch my head. I knew there were other girls out there who were far thinner. I am muscular and still have a bit of jiggle in all the right places (IMHO).
I remember thinking “If I am a size 0 then what in the world size is left for the less athletic, thin types? What would your answer be ladies if Mr. Ryan Gosling himself asked. 😉
My online shopping trip this week answered that question!!
Behold the size 00. I have no issue with the small framed women who wear the 00 jeans. My issue is with the marketing behind the number. And yes, upon further investigation, there is an actual marketing scheme behind it. Apparently it is called “vanity sizing.” It explains why I can wear a 0 in some brands and a 4 in others. It explains why some size 2 jeans fit like they were made just for me and other size 2 jeans stop half way up my crack.
I know women who wear the 00 jeans. They look great and in fact are fit and healthy. So truly, my issue isn’t the size of the woman or how God created her… I just want jean sizes that make sense! My husband’s jeans have 2 numbers; one for the length and one for the waist. That’s all I want. I know there are women’s brands that do the same so perhaps I will have to find my perfect brand and proudly sport my size 27 as opposed to my Size 0.
Here is a little video I found that helps explain this whole mess of a sizing system!
So apparently I’m not the first person to feel less than excited about shopping for jeans, nor am I the only one that thinks the US sizing system is bunk. I’m sure this blog will go viral and in a few weeks someone will be working tirelessly to change the system, 😉 but until then I’m going to go shop online for a size 4… and maybe a size 6. May as well toss in a 2 while I’m at it and perhaps from the right store, I can tuck by butt into a size 00.
Sounds like a good Video Blog to me!
