Fashion: It’s not really my strong point. I could easily blame that on being a mom of 4 small children but the reality is, I have never really appreciated fashion or followed the trends. I may have tried to follow trends in high school, but I am fairly sure my interpretation of what was in was not really all that hot. But then again, I think that is the case with most teens in general.
I recall a conversation with a good friend in college where she pretty bluntly said “why do you dress like that all the time? You are young and beautiful and you will never be younger or more beautiful than you are right now. You are always wearing baggy workout clothes and your hair pulled back in a ponytail. Take a little more pride in your appearance.” I nervously laughed in half shock and half knowing, Julie was right.
15 years later I can’t say that I am a fashionista but thanks to my husband and some good friends, I am starting to figure things out. My husband is seriously awesome when it comes to dressing me. He has classy taste and he can put outfits together beautifully. He can see pieces in catalogs and know right away if it is me or not. I know, not normal but I totally love it. And yes, he is ALL MAN so don’t even go there.
I have another little secret though… Stitch Fix.
This personal shopping company is perfect for me for so many reasons!
- I don’t like to shop. And I don’t just mean for clothes. I don’t like to shop for anything!
- My kids are often with me and I end up leaving without anything if I do shop out of sheer frustration from the drink they spilled and the 3 fights that broke out.
- I get frustrated trying clothes on.
- I can’t seem to put pieces together unless I see it all put together on a mannequin.
- I have a hard time spending money on myself. I think this is a mom thing because I have talked to other moms who feel the same.
Here is how Stitch Fix saved me…
- They shop for me. I fill out a simple survey letting them know what I like and what I don’t along with my size. They send 5 items that they thing will look good on me.
- They show me how to wear what they send! Yep, they send little cards with sample ideas of how to put the pieces together. IT’s beautiful! They give a dress up option and a dress down option. I just find pieces I already own to put with it and make it work.
- You only keep what you like. When I get my package I try on all 5 pieces and keep only what I like.
- Return shipping is SO EASY! They send a return bag, already labeled and paid for! I just slide the unwanted pieces in, seal it up, but it in my mail box and put the flag up. No trip to the post office EVER!
- Paying is easy! I simply click the checkout box on my online account and select the items I kept.
Some things to keep in mind
- There is a $20 monthly fee but the great part is that that $20 is applied to your order. IF you keep something, you don’t really pay that $20. I promise you will love at least one of the items!
- The more you use their service and communicate with the Stitch Fix team, the more they will “get you.” The shipments will keep getting better. So hang in there.
- You can cancel or postpone your shipments with ease at any time.
So what are you waiting for? Be sure to take some great pics of your new items and share it with others.
Let’s make the world a more beautiful place one Stitch Fix at a time. Please share your fix with me on one of my social media outlets.
Stay beautiful my friends!
