It’s the most wonderful time of the year….
I may be a little late with this post as I am seeing many of you have already sent your kids off to school…
All you mamas know what I’m talking about.
That magical time at the end of the summer when the backpacks are ready and the school supplies have been bought and moms start having daydreams of quiet mornings after drop off is done. Coffee dates with friends, grocery shopping without the kids. . . OK, well, maybe my days won’t be that glorious because I’ll still have my youngest home and a new baby due any day, but they will be much quieter!
Of COURSE I love my children and that first couples of weeks of summer vacation are magical. Having everyone home, not having to run anywhere, kids sleeping in. . . But then the whining sets in.
- “Mom! I’m bored!”
- “Mom! What are we doing today?”
- “Mom! She/He hit me!”
- “Mom! I’m hungry!”
The list goes on and on and on and why do they always want to eat?!?!?!
Maybe it’s just my kids? They seem to need constant entertainment, a schedule that lets them know what’s going on and a teacher who will discipline them.
God bless you teachers. Maybe that’s what I need. Maybe I need a teacher full time at my house to teach my kids. They seem to respond and behave better for their teachers than for me, but I guess that’s how you want them to be, right?
They are excited about starting school, and for that I am grateful. The anticipation of meeting new friends is overshadowing the fact that very shortly, they will be doing homework again.
This year will be a little different for us. We are at a new school, a new start time (7:30am – It’s criminal!!!) and a new baby on the way. Okay, I know it’s not my first time around the block here, but having a newborn will make certain things like drop off and pick up a little tricky. I’ve done it before, I can surly do it again. I will for sure enlist some helping hands when needed… you know how I feel about outsourcing right?
For about 2 months I will have only one at home, so I plan on getting as much done as I possibly can. I have a set a plan for life and for business. I have already improved my organization and enlisted help. A long term plan will always help you get a little more focused on your short term goals. In general, the kids have somehow sucked much of my organization out of me. But given the fact that I have school uniforms, supplies and shoes all set to go more than 2 weeks before school starts- I guess I’m not doing too bad. Thank you AMAZON! You make this messy mom a hero!
How can you maximize your potential when you send your kids back to school? You now have 6 to 7 hours of your day that you can use to be incredibly productive. But you have to have a plan or those hours will waste away. Someone else will plan your day for you if you don’t do it first.
- Have monthly goals. What will September look like for you? Mark your calendar so that you have important events and appointments set and ready to go!
- Have weekly goals. Each Sunday night (or maybe you prefer the end of your day on Friday) to go over your entire next week and the next day. This way there are no surprises.
- Have a list each day. I love the Reminders app that comes automatically with the iPhone. I set a list for each day of the week. I like to do this at night before I go to bed so that when I wake up I can get started right away on my list.
- Plan special times with your kids and spouse. Don’t pack your schedule so tight that the things that matter most don’t get the attention they deserve. They go on the calendar too.
Enjoy your new year! I am loving seeing all of your back to school photos. Mine are coming soon!
As always, thank you for reading and following. Have an amazing week!
