What is going to keep you going when your plans fall apart? When you run on the treadmill 5 days a week for a full month and gain 3 pounds, what is going to push you to go another 30 days? When you work to build your business for 2 months and “only make” $200, what is going to drive you to go harder for another 2 months, 6 months, a year? How many successful people do you know? If you said none, it may be time to expand your circle of friends a little. But truly, consider the successful people in your life. Do you think they got where they are with ease? Do you think there was not a price to pay? Do you think they found some way to avoid failure? I assure you, it was not easy, it was not without a price and they failed MANY TIMES!
So I ask you again… when your plans fall apart, what is it that is going to push you harder? How will you overcome that nagging voice that says “I can’t do it” or “I tried and it didn’t work” or “I am just not smart enough, old enough, young enough, strong enough”? I am sure you can recall a few other excuses you have used in the past. Yes, let’s just go ahead and call them EXCUSES because that is all they are. An excuse is nothing more than a well thought out lie. How often are you filling your head with lies?
Since starting my business almost 3 years ago, I have become well acquainted with the question “what is your why?” Finding your why simply means you dig deep down and find that driving, emotional, deep reason for achieving whatever it is that you set out to do. Personally, my WHY has grown from something as simple as my kids tuition to a vision of really making a positive impression in this world serving others and giving whenever and whatever we see fit to those in need.
Let me speak for a moment to those who join my health and fitness challenges. Why are you doing this? Is it for a wedding that is coming up in 2 months or is there an island vacation around the corner? It is time to dig deeper than that because your health is far too important to only focus on for weddings and vacations (because we know what you are going to do when you get to the wedding reception and the cabana buffet). Many of my challengers simply hate how they feel in their skin. They have lost all confidence and it spills over into every other aspect of their life from their work performance to the way they treat their spouse. If I can get you to dig deeper and find something bigger than a number on a scale or a pants size then you won’t fail and you won’t quit because your purpose is big enough to make you keep going even when things don’t go as fast as you would like. You keep going because failure is inevitable- what you do after you fail is what will make or break you.
What other areas of life do you want success but just can’t seem to make progress? Have you given up too soon? What is the big picture? What is the ultimate goal? Why do you really want that promotion, raise, job, bonus, or that walk across the stage as a millionaire? You can have it but once you get there, then what? What are you going to do with that raise when you get it? Think about that because you have such a huge potential to make an awesome impact on this world. You can change more than just your life and isn’t that really what living is all about after all? Dream big, think big, live big, give big and NEVER EVER GIVE UP!
