We have been told our whole lives that we need milk. We are given milk at a young age and are sold the line “Milk. It does a body good.” But does it really? I’m no expert. I can only go by what my GUT tells me and what I’ve learned from personal experience. Even my husband and I disagree on the topic of dairy. know… my marriage is intense 😉
Here’s What I do Know
*I am not a doctor of health professional. I’m a mom who took her child to a holistic nutritionist. I would recommend if you are feeling similarly or have symptoms find a local health professional and speak with them about solutions!
A mama knows when something isn’t right with her kids!
I’ve felt for a while that something was off with my 12 year old daughter’s health. She’s always been the one that has gotten sick. Her illness would last longer than the rest of us. She would get random rashes and ear infections. She was often sluggish and challenging to get moving in the morning. Nothing was ever super serious, but I knew if I did some research I could help her find some answers and possibly even healing through good nutrition.
I decided to take her to a holistic nutritionist and have some blood tests run. Thankfully, she is healthy overall… but she did test as being severely sensitive to milk and dairy and moderately sensitive to eggs.
Not the end of the world and a clear place to start changing things up! We needed to eliminate dairy and eggs so we were able to work out a nutrition plan and some supplements to help boost her body’s ability to process foods and help heal her gut.
We have been having some fun picking out new recipes to try with milk and egg alternatives. ❤️She was a little nervous, but she is already feeling optimistic with some of the recipe ideas we are finding. I decided to follow the plan with her!
Progress!
It’s been about 2 months since we eliminated dairy and eggs. The change in her has been DRAMATIC! And it happened quickly. She isn’t healed yet, but we are for sure on the right track.
She went from sleeping in late (we homeschool so it happens) to setting an alarm, waking early, getting her school work done, and sustaining energy throughout the day. It’s been amazing. She’s almost like a different kid.
The great part is she notices how much better she feels and some of it is in ways she wasn’t expecting because she has lived with this for so long, she truly didn’t know what feeling good meant.
Yay for wholesome healing!
Small Gains
I have never been officially tested, but I can tell a difference in how I feel when I eliminate dairy. I know that dairy is an inflammatory so maybe we all could stand to benefit for a little modification when it comes to things that cause us to inflame 🙂
Years ago, I followed a holistic cleanse and noticed the cellulite in my legs was greatly reduced. My nutritionist informed me that eliminating dairy would do that. Who knew?!
I’m not writing this to tell you to eliminate dairy. It’s still a part of our family (for now). I do encourage you to seek advice from a nutrition expert if you don’t feel great. It’s truly amazing when you learn how to figure out your body’s specific nutritional needs and act accordingly. We are not one size fits all when it comes to health. In many cases, a few little dietary tweeks can go a long way to feeling better and making your body into a virus and disease fighting machine.
Cheers to better health for all! And drop a comment below of a favorite recipe that is dairy and egg free! We’d love to collect even more options as we pursue health and a new way of enjoying food.
xoxo, Rebekah
