Feeling bloated and tired. That was where I was as I closed out 2013. But why? I am in the health and fitness industry. I should be at peak performance right? I had pretty much attributed the way I was feeling to the fact that I was still waking several times a night with my 7 month old baby. But this is my 4th round with waking with babies. I have become pretty good at getting baby to sleep and quickly returning to my own slumber. I felt there had to be more and I was sure it was in my nutrition.
A friend of mine who is a health and nutrition coach shared that she was starting an 11 Day Detox and shared how it helps you to find YOUR PERFECT BALANCE- as in – not what the fads tell you you should be eliminating or adding to your nutrition but what Your BODY is telling you. I really like that approach to nutrition. I decided to give it a shot. And because I have an awesome husband, who has come so far in his opinions of food, he joined in as well.
We eliminated all processed foods. There was no dairy, nuts, eggs or wheat. We did include the protein (grass fed and organic) of our choice with all meals. The detox was heavy on fresh produce which I really enjoyed- if we are going to be honest though, I think my husband got tired of the repeat veggie dishes I prepared. That was just my preference to make food prep for the week simple.
At the end of the 11 days, you slowly integrate food back into your daily nutrition. This is where you learn what foods are having an impact on your health and performance.
I found that wheat products actually do seem to make me feel a little sluggish- go figure. I don’t know that that necessarily means I have intolerance, but I sure do feel better without it.
Matt (my husband) is convinced that eliminating dairy made him dumber. Haha- I don’t have an explanation to that one but no one knows his body and brain function better than him.
Not all Detoxes are the same. Most of them I probably wouldn’t recommend. This one was different. I have had several friends do this Detox and love it.
I say give it a try and here is why
1. The food is truly delicious
2. The recipes really are simple- there is just some time needed for the prep.
3. It is just 11 days!
4. Having the accountability and support from Lindsay really made a difference.
5. I was NEVER hungry! You eat 3 meals and have a snack list.
6. There is no getting bored- you have more variety than you need.
7. You will try new, healthy and tasty foods that you will find you love.
