Who has read the book Girl Wash Your Face? I’ll admit, I resisted. I had no intentions of reading it, but my team took a vote and wanted it to be our January book read. I didn’t say anything negative. I just got my copy and started reading.
In the first few pages my initial sentiments were confirmed. I felt zero connection with the author (Rachel Hollis). Of course I didn’t tell my team because I clearly held the unpopular view. I mean, this girl has taken off like wild fire in the US. Who am I to judge right?
I believe that everyone – even those with differing views…sometimes especially those with differing views- have something to share that we can learn from.
I’ll admit, while I don’t connect with Rachel on a personal level, there are parts of her experiences that I can relate to.
I read this excerpt from her book this morning and it inspired the team call I will host today. The context is about success and why she has it and other’s don’t. Wooooo girl.
“It’s simple, actually. It’s not about talent, skill, money, or connections. It’s because when they went after their dreams and came up against a roadblock, when they experienced rejection, or when someone or something told them no . . . they listened. I am successful because I refused to take no for an answer. I am successful because I have never once believed my dreams were someone else’s to manage.”
This is me.
My husband will joke that I don’t like to be told what to do. It’s true. What can I say. I’ve got five kids and another on the way and we move a lot. Gotta keep movin’ girl! Many times that works in my favor. When you tell me something won’t work or it will never happen… well watch out because I’m about to make it happen.
I’m a dreamer, an optimist… 🎵 “I get knocked down but I get up again” 🎵… you’re welcome if you hum that all day.
2019 is gonna be awesome… not because of government, market trends or anything of the sort. It’s all about our Attitude!!
My word of 2019 is Excellence and I see it come to life more and more each day.
xoxo, Rebekah
